St. George , UT , United States

The Whitehead Home is in the historic district of downtown St. George, yet enjoys a quiet neighborhood atmosphere with big beautiful trees, and historic homes. Just down the street from the Whitehead Home in walking distance is Ancestor Square ( many wonderful restaurants for adults and children). To the East and across the street is a great store with Antiques (from clothing to furniture) and refurnished furniture called Urban Renewal. The old Firestation has been turned into Zion's Brewery. Across from Ancestor Square going south (St. George Blvd) are more cozy restaurants; Wood Ash & Rye (a high end boutique restaurant and bar) Bear Paw is famous for breakfast, 25 Main for yummy lunches, dinners and sweet baked goods), and a little further down is Main Street Antiques and Annie's Vintage Garden. Walk a little further and you'll come to this wonderful little Splash Pad Park. It has a splash pad for kids and a "wading" lazy river for the kids to play in. There is also a carousel (a dollar a ride) in the park, a free children's museum (you can give a donation if you like, but don't have to) and lots of grass and picnic area. By the park is Judd's General store that has been in business since 1907. They sell lunch items, ice cream and good old fashioned candies from way back. It is part of the Green Gate Village where you can browse shops, get a bite to eat and even a haircut. Don't forget to visit the Greater Zion Convention & Tourism also right on Main Street. You can find a map if you want to explore where are the historic homes are in the neighborhood.
Now all that is in walking distance, if you are ready to hike and explore head to Zion's of course! It is a wonderful place to go with easy and hard hikes and many educational and fun things for families to do. There are many other hikes and areas to explore like Snow Canyon State Park, (you can see Petroglyphs), Pioneer Park (which is just above Whitehead Home) Toquerville Falls (about 20 min drive north) has beautiful hikes and water falls. And Kanarraville Falls (about 45 mins north in Cedar City) another wonderful hike with water falls and narrow canyons.
